Lied uit 1814 waarin het Nederlandse volk wordt opgeroepen hoop te houden ondanks alle geweld, aangericht door Napoleon. In de vijfde strofe wordt 'de zoon van Willem' als beschermer genoemd. Hier wordt de zoon van erfstadhouder Willem V mee bedoeld, de latere koning Willem I. Hij kwam in 1813 als soeverein vorst terug uit Engeland. In 1814 was de macht van Napoleon al tanende. Nederland was net verlost van Franse heerschappij.
